In this position, Dr. Price will lead the development of the strategic direction and plan for the Portfolio Program, which offers a pathway for health care organizations to support physician involvement in quality improvement (QI) initiatives and provide physicians from multiple specialties the opportunity to receive credit in their Programs for Maintenance of Certification (MOC). He also will direct the program’s evaluation and research efforts and provide support for Portfolio Sponsors as well as identify and evaluate key areas for program growth.
Dr. Price, a Board Certified family physician who has been with the Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG) since 1988, will remain its Director of Medical Education. “Dr. Price will provide outstanding leadership for the Portfolio Program,” said Lois Margaret Nora, MD, JD, MBA, ABMS President and Chief Executive Officer. “His involvement in the ABMS Member Boards Community, leadership in medical education, and experience with the Portfolio Program will help move this important program forward.”
The Portfolio Program offers a streamlined approach for organizations that sponsor and support multiple well-designed QI efforts involving physicians across multiple disciplines to work with ABMS Member Boards in order to obtain MOC Part IV credit. Currently, there are 18 ABMS Member Boards and 32 Portfolio Sponsors participating in the program. To date, more than 500 QI projects have been approved and nearly 3,300 physicians have received MOC Part IV credit for their participation.
“The Portfolio Program serves as a bridge between QI initiatives at the practice level and the Programs for MOC,” noted Virginia A. Moyer, MD, MPH, Chair of the Portfolio Program Board of Directors. “Under Dr. Price’s direction, we anticipate that the program will continue to grow and engage more physicians in QI activities.”
