ST. PAUL, Minn. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Of the 100 companies recognized in this year’s Star Tribune Top Workplaces survey, Securian Financial Group, is one of only 14 to appear on the list for five years in a row.
The Top Workplaces selections are based solely on the outcome of employee surveys that ask questions about connection to the company, job satisfaction, confidence in senior management, benefits, and other factors that compose workplace quality of life. Securian was 13th among the 30 large companies on the 2014 list.
Employees give Securian especially high marks for confidence in leadership, values and ethics, benefits, doing things efficiently and well and belief that the company is headed in the right direction.
Kathy Pinkett, senior vice president, Human Resources and Corporate Services, told the Star Tribune that customers’ perceptions of Securian often are based on their interactions with employees. That’s why Securian fosters a service-focused culture where employees can thrive.
“We hire people who are enthusiastic and want to build a career with us,” said Pinkett. “We provide coaching and meaningful work and engage our associates so they understand how their work fits into the larger picture.”
Pinkett also said the company looks for ways to help its employees live well-rounded lives.
“We realize employees have lives outside of work. While we take into account business needs, we are committed to flexibility with work schedules,” she said. An example is six months of job protection to care for a sick parent, spouse, or child.
Securian has received many best employer honors:
Securian was also named Lifeworks Services, Inc. 2014 Employer of the Year for the full-time employment opportunities it provides for individuals with disabilities.
Since 1880, Securian Financial Group and its affiliates have provided financial security for individuals and businesses in the form of insurance, investments and retirement plans. Now one of the nation’s largest financial services providers, it is the holding company parent of a group of companies that offer a broad range of financial services.
