General John Allen Joins PwC's Public Sector Practice as Senior Strategic Advisor

NEW YORK, June 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- PwC US today announced that General John Allen, USMC (Retired) has joined the firm's Advisory business to serve as a Senior Strategic Advisor to the Public Sector practice. Allen's unique experience as both a senior military officer leading multi-national forces in combat and as a seasoned diplomat will offer the firm and its clients valuable perspectives on global trends and opportunities in security and defense markets.

Allen, a retired general of the U.S. Marine Corps, will continue to serve as a distinguished fellow in the Foreign Policy program at Brookings Institution, a private non-profit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions, working within the Center on 21st Century Security and Intelligence.

Prior to joining Brookings, Allen commanded the NATO International Security Assistance Force and United States Forces in Afghanistan from July 2011 to February 2013, during a particularly critical period in the war. Additionally, he established the Special Operations Joint Task Force. During his nearly 38-year military career, Allen served in a variety of command and staff positions in the Marine Corps and the Joint Force. Prior to Afghanistan, Allen commanded at every level in the Marine Corps through Marine Expeditionary Brigade.

As a general officer, Allen served as the principal director of Asia/Pacific policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for nearly three years, during which he was involved extensively on policy initiatives involving Mongolia, China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. Allen was also involved in the Six Party Talks on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and he played a major role in organizing the relief effort during the South Asian tsunami from 2004 to 2005.

In addition to his operational background, Allen has led a number of professional military educational programs, including: director of the Marine Infantry Officer Program; commanding officer of the Marine Corps Basic School; and, commandant of midshipmen in the United States Naval Academy. He has also served as the following: Marine Corps fellow to the Center for Strategic and International Studies; commandant of the Marine Corps fellow; and, the first Marine officer to serve as a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, where he remains a permanent and active member.

Allen graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. in operations analysis, from Georgetown University with a M.A. in national security studies, from the Defense Intelligence College with a M.S. in strategic intelligence, and from the National Defense University with a M.S. in national security strategy.
