SAN JOSE, Calif., July 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Intel released a document describing the successful results of a collaboration in the area of computer engineering. As part of an effort to energize students to the important work of increased efficiency, Intel recently teamed up with Benoit Pradelle and the PerfCloud Energy Team through the University of Versailles St Quintin-en-Yvelines. As an Intel® Software Academic Program Member, PerfCloud had access to a broad array of code, tools and support for their research.

The case study details how the team set up a pilot contest at University of Versailles and University of Valenciennes in which students had to verify the exactitude of a maze using the least amount of energy possible. This competition was designed to gauge interest among the student body and allow researchers to observe a variety of models in action. The winners from each school were able to complete the task using a process called parallelization that enabled a maximum energy gain 100% over the reference program.

The document notes that the contest will serve as a reproducible model that will push industry practices and understanding forward at the educational level. Intel provides hardware and support to the PerfCloud Energy Team's research to make tomorrow's computers more efficient. "Intel was substantial in guiding the process of creating and executing both the contest and the larger body of work," says Benoit Pradelle. "By adopting Intel tools to the process, we were able to gain significant ground in enabling the next generation of computers to consume less energy and preserve battery life."
