TRENTON, N.J. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- BioNJ, the trade association for New Jersey’s life sciences industry, announced today that Thomas P. Richardson, Ph.D., MBA has been appointed to the newly created position of Vice President of Strategic Initiatives.
Dr. Richardson most recently served as Director, Public-Private Partnership at Rutgers University in New Brunswick where he created and implemented public-private partnership strategies to engage industry and university leaders and State officials in technology transfer initiatives and other cooperative programs to advance innovation and spur economic development.
As Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Dr. Richardson will lead the development of specific strategic initiatives as outlined by the BioNJ Board of Trustees. These will include programs to enhance funding opportunities for life sciences companies and other approaches that will foster the entrepreneurial climate in New Jersey.
BioNJ President and CEO Debbie Hart said that Dr. Richardson is well suited to his new role because he brings a unique combination of experience in academia and private industry to his position that will enable BioNJ to expand upon its efforts to nurture and advance the life sciences industry.

Dr. Richardson began his career at Rutgers in the Office of Technology Commercialization and also served as the Director of Research Alliances at the University. Prior to joining Rutgers, Dr. Richardson worked in Business Development at Medarex, a BioNJ Founding Member that was acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2009.
Dr. Richardson is a resident of West Windsor. He received an MA-BA in chemistry from Boston University and his doctorate in biochemistry from the Boston University School of Medicine. He also earned an MBA from his studies at Babson College and Rider University.
