LOS ANGELES -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Outside the Wire, an innovative program launched in Southern California by U.S.VETS in 2011 to address veterans’ unmet needs for preventative mental health treatment, has been awarded a significant grant by the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

“We are honored to receive this grant,” said Stephen Peck, president and CEO of U.S.VETS. “This money will allow us to help more veterans suffering from combat related stress, including many who don’t even know they need the help.”

The Bob Woodruff Foundation works to ensure injured veterans and their families thrive long after they return home. The team at the foundation navigates the maze of over 40,000 nonprofit organizations to find and fund programs in communities where veterans, their families and caregivers live and work.

This year, Outside the Wire will provide outreach, counseling and referral services to some 500 veterans suffering from service-related psychological injuries, most notably post-traumatic stress.

The program also trains social workers and mental health professionals, broadening the network of providers with expertise to help armed forces personnel, military veterans, and their families manage the pressures of military life and post-war adjustment.

“Receiving a grant from the Bob Woodruff Foundation is an honor that recognizes the dedication, focus and effectiveness of our staff, volunteers and supporters. As a grant recipient, our organization joins the Bob Woodruff Foundation grantee network, a collaboration of top-tier programs and advocates working to help our heroes on the home front,” said Peck.
