ATLANTA, Aug. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to industries using soft materials--fabrics, leather, technical textiles and composite materials--is pleased to announce a collaboration with RAGTRADE Atlanta to nurture the economic development of the region's fashion, design and retail communities.
RAGTRADE Atlanta was created by a group of industry professionals with the goal of developing a vibrant and globally recognized fashion community for the City of Atlanta. The organization aims to discover and promote independent designers worldwide by providing a space for fresh talent to showcase their designs to leaders in the fashion community including buyers, editors, retailers and key influencers.
"As a leading provider of technology solutions for the fashion industry with an Atlanta-based North American headquarters, our sponsorship of RAGTRADE Atlanta makes perfect sense for Lectra," says Roy Shurling, President of Lectra North America. "Our solutions, which address the entire fashion development cycle from design to production, have been adopted by many fashion and apparel companies around the world, and we aim to bring this knowledge to the current and upcoming generations here in Atlanta."
RAGTRADE Atlanta is hosting the city's first full day of high-end runway shows featuring some of the southeast's top emerging designers, a style lounge, press events and after-parties. The event will take place on Saturday, August 23 at the W Atlanta-Buckhead.
Amongst the emerging designers, graduating students from local Bauder College will also be showcasing their designs, vying for one of three honors. "The Lectra Industry Portfolio Award will provide the winning portfolio design student with a one-year license for our advanced design solution," adds Shurling. "Bauder College is one of more than 850 schools and universities in 60 countries within Lectra's Education Partnership Program. Through this program, we ensure our partner institutions have the same technology used in the professional fashion and apparel world to help adequately prepare their students to hit the ground running after graduation."
"The Lectra Industry Portfolio Award has inspired all of our upcoming design graduates to develop their best work," explains Mary Justman, Program Director Design, Fashion and Business, Bauder College. "Today's graduates in design must be prepared for the highly technical environment of design. The winning student will be prepared to launch into the technical design segment of the market and to develop either entrepreneurial opportunities or secure employment with a top design firm."
