SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/25/14 -- INFORUM, The Commonwealth Club's Innovation Lab, announced today that it will host Marissa Mayer on Thursday, Oct. 30th, 2014 for an interview conducted by Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, at The Castro Theatre. Mayer, CEO of Yahoo! since 2012, will receive INFORUM's 21st Century Visionary Award. Google's executive chairman, Eric Schmidt, will present the award to Marissa via a video introduction.
The interview will focus on Marissa's bold moves at Yahoo! and her contributions to the tech industry. In addition to the on-stage interview, INFORUM will host a premium reception giving attendees a chance to toast to success with Marissa Mayer and Marc Benioff themselves.
"Marissa designed Google as you know it today, and has done much to transform Yahoo! into a fantastic company," commented Eric Schmidt, executive chairman at Google. "But this award is deserved because virtually every startup in the Bay Area is either founded or populated by people who Marissa hired and trained. That's a real innovator."
Marissa Mayer is the CEO of Yahoo!, one of very few women to run a Fortune 500 company, and No. 1 on Fortune Magazine's "40 Under 40" list, starting her career as the 20th employee at Google. Google enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence under Mayer's tenure -- she launched successful and groundbreaking products such as Google Maps, Google Earth, Street View, Google News and Gmail. In 2012, Mayer claimed a bigger stage with her appointment as CEO of Yahoo! In just two years, Mayer has launched Yahoo! Screen Live, acquired 17 companies including Tumblr, and spearheaded facelifts for the Yahoo! mail app, homepage and Flickr.
INFORUM's 21st Century Visionary Award is presented to young thinkers who are shaping the future of our world. Past recipients include Jack Dorsey, Dave Eggers, Van Jones, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Cecile Richards and Change.org's Ben Rattray. The 21st Century Visionary Award is bestowed in recognition of special achievement, innovation and distinguished public service.
Marissa will be interviewed by Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, who has been named by Fortune as one of the Top 50 People in both tech and business. The interview will take place at The Castro Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 30th, at 7:15 p.m. PT.
