VCXC Launches HDN Phase II as Further Demonstration of HD Voice Interoperability

WASHINGTON -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Voice Communication Exchange Committee (VCXC) launches the HDN Phase II proof-of-concept to include HD voice provisioning through the Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC) operated by Neustar. HDN demonstrates a mechanism enabling HD voice calling between all US operators, who rely on the NPAC for seamless interoperability.

The expanding deployment of HD voice includes all major operators with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint making HD voice announcements in 2014. VCXC estimates the population of HD enabled IP phones includes 70 million devices, but there remains no interoperability supporting HD voice calling between any of the operators.

"HDN provides network operators a learn by doing opportunity and a means to explore novel IP transition enabled deployment models," said Daniel Berninger, founder, VCXC. "HDN users dialing "00" and the standard destination telephone number obtain the benefits of both a HD voice connection and Internet like unmetered calling between participating operators."

"Neustar included an IP field within the NPAC in anticipation of service creation opportunities like HD voice arriving with the IP transition," said Tom McGarry, Neustar Fellow. "Neustar supports the spirit of experimentation demonstrated by VCXC's HDN Phase II effort as an interesting test of HD voice as a use case for interoperability."

"The VCXC HDN Phase I trial at the FCC showed the first example of live HD voice interoperability between three operators anywhere in the world," said Daniel Berninger, founder, VCXC. "The HDN Phase II trial takes a big step forward by creating a means for provisioning HD voice interoperability between all the operators with access to the NPAC."

About VCXC:

VCXC - Voice Communication Exchange Committee - launched an effort to complete the IP transition by 2018 at the IP Transition as Grand Challenge event in June 2012 and the case for industry interoperability via the Petition for a HD Voice Migration Notice of Inquiry in February 2014.
