General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) , has been awarded a contract by the General Services Administration's Assisted Acquisitions Service to support the Army National Guard's distributed learning information technology (IT) program. Under this contract, General Dynamics will provide information technology (IT) technical support and professional services for its Distributed Learning Branch, Army Training Division. The contract has a total potential value of $26.1 million over five years if all options are exercised.
The support services to be provided by General Dynamics include strategic planning, assessment and management solutions to expand distributed learning training opportunities for Army National Guard Soldiers and units throughout the 54 states and territories and for those who are currently deployed internationally. General Dynamics will work with the Army National Guard to expand access to distributed learning resources, increase the number of course offerings and enhance synchronization of distributed learning with other Army National Guard training methods.
"The Army National Guard is transitioning to an Operational Force, and we must develop and maintain capabilities that support full-spectrum operations throughout the world while always being ready to perform our traditional roles at home," said LTC Douglas C. Rose, Jr., Chief of the Distributed Learning Branch. "Our Distributed Learning Program provides Soldiers and leaders with the capability to obtain professional development, functional training, mobilization training, and sustainment training anywhere they have a connection to the Internet. The Distributed Learning Program also allows us to share operational best practices with our Soldiers deployed around the globe."
Core mission support services include strategic planning and program management, project assessment and collaboration initiatives, courseware quality assurance evaluations and IT infrastructure support. Additionally, General Dynamics Information Technology will provide training database services to support the Army National Guard Learning Management System (LMS), the Army National Guard implementation of the Army Digital Training Management System (DTMS) and the Army National Guard participation in the Army Training Requirements and Resources System (ATRRS).
"Distributed learning methods enable individual and collaborative training for Army National Guard Soldiers, giving them practical training no matter their location," said Zannie Smith, senior vice president and general manager of Army Solutions for General Dynamics Information Technology. "General Dynamics understands the vital role that distributed learning plays in improving training methods and increasing Soldier readiness and safety during their operations."
General Dynamics Information Technology will partner with PROSOFT to provide quality assurance (QA) assessments, Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) and related support for distributed learning courseware development.
General Dynamics Information Technology has provided other key training services to the Collective Training Branch, Army National Guard Training Division, under its Distributed Battle Simulation Program (DBSP) and Battle Command Training Capability (BCTC) work.
