SMC(R) Networks (www.smc.com) today announced general availability of its first Wireless Internet mobile phone (WSKP100) for Skype software. The new WiFi phone includes Skype software that allows free calls to Skype users anywhere in the world and enables users to call ordinary landlines and mobile phones using SkypeOut(TM) at a very low cost. Available now in North America at an MSRP of $199.99, the new SMC WSKP100 phone is shipping to resellers across North America and Europe.
"We are pleased to announce this leading edge WiFi Phone that runs the widely recognized Skype Internet calling software," said Tony Stramandinoli, SMC Networks' Vice President of Marketing, "Skype has already been downloaded by more than 100 million PC users worldwide. As one of the first Skype Certified WiFi phones, the SMC WiFi Phone for Skype makes Skype calling even easier and more convenient for its users."
With the new SMC WiFi Phone for Skype, users experience enhanced flexibility with everything built-in to connect to Skype via any free WiFi connection that does not require browser authentication using the 802.11 standard. The phone is extremely easy to set-up and use, with automatic registration to a Skype account and an easy-to-use contact list. The SMC WiFi Phone for Skype delivers 3-hours continuous talk-time and 30-hours standby time from its internal Li-Ion Battery, and can be recharged from any USB enabled socket.
"We are expecting a very high demand for this leading edge product," added Stramandinoli. "Its availability marks a new milestone in Internet calling, allowing users to make free calls at home, at work and beyond. The new SMC WiFi Phone gives users great flexibility and mobility -- all that's needed is access to one of a rapidly growing number of free wireless access points that support browser-less authentication; as on university campuses, in offices, at airports or hotels, or at a free public hotspot."
The new SMC WiFi Phone (WSKP100) is available now across North America at an MSRP of $199.
